Just because you’re pursuing a post-secondary education, that doesn’t mean you can’t gain valuable work experience at the same time. At Algonquin College, international students have a number of opportunities to work and make money while continuing their studies.

You can register in a program with a co-op or field study component, allowing you to gain real-world experience in your chosen area of study. You can seek part-time employment on campus. Or, if you’re enrolled in an academic, vocational or professional training program that is at least six months in duration, you can choose to get an off-campus job.

All of these options present excellent opportunities for you to gain valuable work experience in a foreign country and earn extra money to help pay off your educational costs and set yourself up for future success.

Just be aware that in order to work in Canada as an international student, you must have a valid study permit. If you’re enrolled in a co-op program, you need to have a co-op work permit as well. Also note that if you get a job on or off campus, your study permit allows you to work a maximum of 20 hours of week.

Once you’ve received your diploma at Algonquin College, you can apply for a postgraduate work permit, which will allow you to remain in Canada and work for up to 3 years, depending on the length of your studies. You must apply within 90 days of graduation to be eligible for a postgraduate work permit.

Working in a foreign country is a great way to create an impressive resume and launch a successful career. To learn more about work opportunities for international students at Algonquin College, click HERE.
