One of the most important factors when it comes to applying to university is to ensure that you meet all of the admission prerequisites. Here are some useful reminders to help you gather all that you need to apply to Waterloo!

Requirements vary depending on program and where you’re from, so use our admission requirements tool to find the requirements that are specific to you.

As an international student, you must have a valid study permit to attend university in Canada. You will want to do this as soon as possible as the process to obtain one may take up to three months. Keep in mind that you will also need a work permit if you’re admitted into a co-op program.

If your first language is not English and your 4 most recent years of education have not been taught in an English-language system, you will be required to submit an English language test score.

There are many different tests to choose from and we highly encourage you to complete it at least 2 months before the deadline as official marks may take 4-6 weeks to reach us.

Some programs at Waterloo require that you complete the Admission Information Form (AIF), however we suggest that you fill it out regardless of what program you’re applying to. This is your chance to tell us a bit more about yourself and showcase your achievements — use this to your advantage!

Most importantly, remember to apply before the deadline! Don’t forget to submit all of the necessary documents as well, otherwise your application may not be considered.

Best of luck with your application!
