A four-year major in philosophy is ideal for students who want a more thorough and systematic study of the important questions about the assumptions and values of our society than the three-year program allows. As a rule, a four-year program is more in-depth that a three-year program. The one in philosophy also provides an excellent liberal education, and enhances analytic and critical reading, writing and thinking skills. It is excellent background for almost any professional program. It is also advised for students who might want to do a post-graduate degree in philosophy.
