The Dental Assisting program is designed to provide students with the skills, technical knowledge, and clinical experience necessary to become an effective member of the dental health care team. The dental assistant promotes oral health by providing direct patient care, chairside assistance, and dental education. Additional responsibilities include practice management, marketing and laboratory procedures.
Through competency-based learning and clinical experience, the student develops dental assisting skills. Students in the program receive experience in chairside procedures, providing patient care, asepsis and safety protocols, as well as reception responsibilities using dental software application. As a dental assistant must possess strong communication skills to interact successfully with clients and other health care professionals, the program includes courses in professionalism and effective communication techniques.
