Economics with Mathematics School: Acadia University Faculty: Faculty of Arts Degree: Bachelor ; Co-op Field of Study: Economics, General Mathematics, General Description: Economics is the study of humanity in the ordinary business of life. It seeks to establish principles for investigating how resource constraints influence the behaviour of individuals, firms, organizations, and the government. At Acadia, there is a deliberate blending of theory with application, providing students with the analytical tools required for a greater understanding of economic relations and motivations. It shows how and where these tools can be applied in the economic, social, and political dimensions of society. Students can combine Economics with other areas of study including Business, Mathematics, or Computer Science. Economics often leads to careers in banking, provincial, federal and municipal governments, law, consulting, and numerous private sector firms, or to graduate studies in such fields as Economics, Public Policy, International Relations, Environmental Policy, and Law. To complete the co-op option, students must complete three work terms of four months, alternating work and study terms; or complete a 12- to 16-month internship between their third and fourth year of study. The work terms are non-credit courses recognized on the student’s transcript of marks, with applicable tuition fees.
