Seneca’s four-year Bachelor’s Degree, two and three-year Diploma and one-year Graduate Certificate programs are designed with input from business and industry leaders to help lay the foundation for your success. Seneca students gain work experience through projects with and for industry. Choose from more than 145 full-time programs, each offering unique theoretical and hands-on learning opportunities that will get you career-ready.

Seneca offers both on-campus and off-campus opportunities to gain valuable work experience while you are in Canada.

Many of Seneca’s international students begin work in Canada by working on-campus in different capacities, including as college ambassadors and student mentors. These are great opportunities to practice language skills and learn about Canadian culture. In addition, many programs at Seneca incorporate work experience through field placements, internships and co-op opportunities.

The Seneca experience is truly unique. For example, students from Seneca’s Tourism and Travel and Hospitality Management programs are currently in South Africa completing an eight-week field placement at the Johannesburg Corporate Inn and Conference Centre, and at a game reserve and lodge in the KwaZulu Natal province of South Africa.

Whether you are enrolled in a co-op program or just interested in gaining Canadian experience by working while you are attending Seneca, staff can help you with questions about your eligibility for work and which permits you might need. Here are some examples of permits that may be required:

Off-Campus Work Permit - Online Application
You may apply for an off-campus work permit allowing you 20 hours a week while studying and 40 hours a week during your vacation period, if you meet certain requirements and have a 2.5 cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA).

Co-op Work Permit - Paper Application
This permit is required for all co-op internships, externships, field placements and volunteer work.

Post-Grad/Open Work Permit - Online Application
This permit will give you from eight months, up to a three-year work permit in Canada once you graduate from your program.
