Choosing the perfect university to match your needs can be exciting but also intimidating. Between narrowing down a program to study and selecting a university to study at, students can become overwhelmed by the options. To make the experience more exciting and less intimidating, we have put together the top three reasons why students continue to choose to study at Algoma University. For more information, visit www.experience.algomau.ca.

  1. Size. Algoma University is the smallest university in the province. With approximately 1600 undergraduate students, our University is similar in size to a high school. All of our classes are capped at 65, so you will never be in a large lecture theatre with hundreds of other students! Even with classes being maxed at 65, the average class size is only 22 students. You get personal attention and one-on-one help from professors, a rarity amongst other universities. You’re never a number at Algoma University – we care about you and your success.
  2. Housing. Since we’re located in Northern Ontario, many of our students come from outside of the Algoma region, so we have to offer some of the best housing and residency options to our out-of-town and out-of-country students. For students coming directly from high school, our students are guaranteed a single room in New Dormitory or Spirit Village International Dormitory. In both dorms, you will have your own furnished bedroom, and share a bathroom with one other dorm mate. All of our dorms feature high-speed wireless Internet, local phone services, and include weekly cleaning services in all bathrooms and common areas. For upper year students, there are a variety of other options, including townhouses, a downtown residence located in the bustling streets of Sault Ste. Marie, and other single room residences.
  3. Affordability. Algoma University is one of the most affordable university experiences in Ontario! Students pay approximately $6400 for one year of full-time tuition. If students live in residence, included in their residence fee is a meal plan – most other universities add this as an additional cost! Even better, Algoma University boasts some of the best entrance scholarships in the province to help curb the cost of tuition and residence. Students coming to the University with an 80% average or higher, are guaranteed $6000, $10,000, or $12,000 over the course of their four years of studies if they maintain academic excellence. For one year of study, Algoma University can save you almost $1500 a year – that is a huge savings of $6000 for four years!
