With over 4,900 international students from more than 120 countries, the University of Waterloo has proven that it is an excellent destination for international students with high academic aspirations.

Our experienced International Student Advisors have a wealth of knowledge to share with you regarding immigration details (study and work permits, visas, etc.), medical coverage, finances, and employment.

As well, the advisors can help you through your transition to Canada and to Waterloo, as this can often be an intimidating and challenging process. They can help you adjust to the new culture of Canada and provide information for you about housing, academics, and much more.

To help make the transition to Canada as smooth as possible for you, Waterloo holds a 3-day orientation specifically for international students.

You can bring your parents or other family members along with you to help make the transition easier as well. Events such as campus tours, trips to the bank, information sessions, and more are all a part of this orientation. You will have the opportunity to learn all you need to know to succeed, as well as meet new friends before the school term even begins.

If your first language is not English, you can take advantage of English Conversation Circles in order to learn about Canadian culture and meet new people while practicing your English.

Babble Cafes and Throwback Thursdays, hosted by the International and Canadian Student Network (ICSN) are also great opportunities for you to practice your conversational English.

The University of Waterloo uses these programs, as well as many more, to help ensure that you transition easily to Canada and have a fantastic experience here at Waterloo.
