A Map To Success For International Students In Canada

Which institution should you choose to bring your dream of studying in Canada to reality? The best way to answer this question is by defining two key points in your life: Where are you? And, where do you want to go? ‘

Setting your start (current situation) and finish (goal) points will help you prioritize the factors of influence. For example, if you have already completed a bachelor’s degree but you don’t have the Canadian work experience that is required in many skilled jobs, a College education that offers internship or co-op work placements is an important point you need to mark on your imaginary map if you want to head in the right direction.

“When I was looking at the different options of Colleges in Ontario to do the Project Management program, I chose Centennial College because the program outline covers various fields instead of just being focused on IT, and most importantly because it offers an internship that provides a great opportunity to start developing my work experience in Canada” says Isabel Gonzalez, International Student from Colombia, Project Management and Financial Planning program.

The next point you have to find on your map is: Where do you want to study? If you are expecting to get a job in your field after graduation in a specific company or field; you can consult studies, surveys, rankings and analysis of the performance of the colleges’ graduates and the employers’ opinion about them.

“I believe reputation and research studies are one of the most influential qualities for colleges. During my research I saw that Centennial College is highly recognized in essential studies through both industry and business environment.” says Enzer Erkovan, International Student from Turkey, Logistics Management program.

If your final goal is to work in Canada, there are important Career Services and networking opportunities you should make sure your future school offers to support your success.

“I came to Centennial from Jamaica and found a great deal of success. My teachers were always there for me and very helpful in understanding the culture in Canada. In particular my International business law, and employment preparedness class was instrumental in my success. Centennial also helped me get in contact with my employer through a networking event.” – Ryan Miller, International Business Management 2015 Grad, Assistant Manager, Walmart.
