To decide which university will provide the perfect education for your future career path is no easy task. So how does one choose the perfect school from another country?

Toritse Ikomi is from Nigeria and is a Communication and Digital Media Studies student at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT). She chose UOIT for a few reasons.

“UOIT has one of the most affordable international student tuition rates, and Oshawa is a great location that is close to Toronto,” says Toritse. “It has been a great learning experience and coming to Canada has benefited me a lot. Things are more developed here and the education is impeccable. I have learned valuable things that I can hopefully take back home to help further develop our community.”

UOIT offers many opportunities from innovative programs with specialized paths to new educational infrastructure such as technology-enriched learning. Toritse has also been able to build up a remarkable resumé that includes co-hosting on campus radio, joining the African Student Association, being a work study student, and joining a club that supports individuals such as refugees to come study at UOIT with scholarships.

Of course, she also enjoys some of the other aspects of life at UOIT and in Canada. “I love the food here! Some I’ve never tried before such as poutine,” says Toritse. “And the weather back home is hot about 90 per cent of the time. I had never seen snow before I came to Canada. I absolutely love making snow angels!”

There's no doubt that Toritse has made the most of her university experience and that the knowledge and experience gained at UOIT has had a pivotal impact on Toritse’s life goals and aspirations.
