Ready For A Canadian Adventure

Centennial College over the years has always strived to make the arrival of international students as worry free as possible!

Moving to another country will change you. An invisible threshold is crossed as soon as you step on the plane and have the realization that you’re leaving your old life behind. You have the feeling that it is time for a new beginning. Expect excitement and a little apprehension while you think about whether you’ve made the correct decision in your life.

I still remember my first experience studying abroad four years ago. Here I was, a twenty-year-old kid who before then had barely seen his whole country but now all of a sudden he’s off to a foreign land with something to prove.

As I talk about moving to Canada with my fellow international students, I am grateful for how welcoming and supportive the Canadian people have been as we began our adventure.

“I came to Canada from Venezuela to start my English language course in 2014. Back then I didn’t speak any English at all. I was outside looking for the pickup and the driver was there. He quickly understood that I didn’t speak English very well so he very patiently tried to explain to me how the little things work around Toronto and how to find my way around here” says Henry Zambrano from Venezuela, a student of Art and Design Fundamentals at Centennial College.

Centennial College over the years has always strived to make the arrival of international students as worry free as possible by providing many services, be it airport pick up, Orientation, Information sessions about studying and working in Canada, Clubs and Student Association or the amazing new Centennial Place residence opening in August 2016.

Centennial college is not just a place where you go to get your degree. It’s also an excellent place to gain work experience.

“I always considered Canada to be a very welcoming country; and after arrival my experience confirmed my point of view. I had the intention to stay here for living and work, and I understood that for this reason I needed a Canadian education. During the first month we had a speaker who explained to us the main features about co-op and internship and we got instructions on how to apply for co-op permits. We also got contacts to communicate with for further internship and work opportunities. Centennial has plenty of resources that provide students with counseling and assistance in employment preparedness as well as job search.” says Iana Tsybrovska, International Business Management student.

As Lao Tzu said “The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.” Centennial College was a great place for me to start my journey and I hope it will be for you as well should you decide to move to Canada and study at Centennial College.
