Description:Geology is the study of the planet Earth - the materials of which it is made, the processes which affect these materials, and the origin and evolution of life. Once you have completed either the Honors or Specialization degree you will have the required course work to qualify for registration with APEGGA, the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta, which regulates the practice of these professions in Alberta.

The career opportunities open to you as a geology graduate include employment with companies engaged in exploration for, and production of hydrocarbons, metallic and non-metallic minerals, coal, and diamonds. In addition, you might find employment in government agencies, companies engaged in engineering and environmental projects, and universities. U of A geology graduates can be found among the top executives of major hydrocarbon and mining companies, provincial and federal geological surveys, and professors in major universities around the world.
