Degree:Bachelor; Honours
Field of Study:Mathematics, General
Description:Mathematics is an incredibly versatile area of science and art. It emerged from the earliest civilizations with its uses in counting, geometry and architecture. Modern mathematics has grown far beyond those scopes with discoveries relating to all branches of science. With the application of number theory to cryptography, analysis to physics, differential equations and probability to biology, psychology and finance, the study of mathematics and it’s applications has become popularized and valued in the private sector and as a recreational pastime. With new areas of application and the development of new mathematical theories pushing the boundaries of our knowledge, mathematicians seek to find the principles unifying it all.

Mathematics teaches you to think using logic and analytical reasoning in order to deduce necessary and/or sufficient conditions to resolve a given problem. These skills are useful in all walks of life from the physical and health sciences to business, the arts and law. In recent years, new connections between mathematics and the physical sciences have been responsible for many advances. Therefore, the study of mathematics in conjunction with any science degree is an excellent idea. Recent studies show that the most satisfying and high paying jobs one can obtain upon receiving an undergraduate degree involve mathematics.
