Prerequisites NotesIt is strongly recommended that students enter the program with Grade 12 with at least a C standing in Applications of Math 11; a minimum of C+ in English 11, or ABE Advanced Level Certificate or GED Certificate with a C+ in English 80 or individual assessment to acceptable level. Students who require some Grade 11 and/or Grade 12 credits can commence studies in Office Administration & Technology while completing high school courses through Access Education. Under the East Kootenay Partnership Agreements, high school students may register in OFAD upon presentation of a Letter of Permission from their high school principal. Students should recognize that many employers require a Grade 12 graduation along with Office Administration & Technology credentials for initial hire and for internal promotion. Keyboarding skills are a definite asset. OFAD 155 Keyboarding 1 is available to those students who need to develop keyboarding skills.

DescriptionThe Office Administration & Technology program (formerly Applied Business Technology) offers four certificates: Accounting, Administrative Assistant, General Office, and Legal Assistant. The Administrative Studies Diploma requires one of the above certificates and a one-year BUAD certificate. Diplomas in Office Management and Executive Assistant are expected to be available by September 2008.

The goal of the OFAD (formerly ABT) program is to offer basic to advanced office, business, and technological skills training, which can assist graduates in securing employment and working effectively in a variety of business settings. This program may also interest individuals who wish to increase their skills and knowledge to prepare for lateral transfer or promotion opportunities within current employment.
