DescriptionThe Certificate in Public Relations is designed for students looking for an undergraduate program that will prepare them for work in this growing field. It is both student-oriented and professionally based. It is "student-oriented", because student representatives meet with instructors and recent gradautes on a regular basis to review how well the program is meeting their needs. In addition, instructors meet regulalrly to ensure coordination of course material and responsiveness to evolving student needs, as well as to upgrade their own skills for making the material accessible and enjoyable for their students.

The certificate is professionally based, because its content is kept up to date with best practices in industry, and is frequently augmented by ongoing research in communications studies. The focus is on practical applications of public relations, but attention will also be paid to theory so that students understand the strategic foundations for the work they are doing. To enhance the practical experience, students will have opportunities to meet professionals working in the industry and discuss real public relations cases and evolving trends.
