| Description | Carleton’s Human Rights and Social Justice program provides students with an overview of historical and contemporary human rights issues from an interdisciplinary perspective. The program is structured around five key thematic areas: 1) a critical analysis of the concepts and principles underlying human rights traditions; 2) a study of the laws and institutions that support and implement human rights frameworks; 3) an analysis of political repression from a human rights perspective; 4) an examination of social marginalization and the role of human rights in the protection of marginalized groups; and 5) an exploration of the relationship between human rights and social justice. Our location in Ottawa will give you access to local, national and international organizations that deal with the promotion of human rights and the elimination of human rights abuses. The city and the university also play host to national and international visitors who offer insights into human rights activism.
