With over 40 years of academic excellence, Langara College is renowned for its award winning faculty who focus on student learning. Centrally located on a park-like campus in a quiet residential neighbourhood close to downtown Vancouver, the College offers a broad curriculum designed to meet your post-secondary education needs.


You may choose from more than 200 first and second year university transfer courses in over 40 different subject areas leading to associate degrees, or specialized diplomas or certificates. More Langara College university transfer students are accepted into undergraduate degree programs by UBC than from any other college. More than 23,000 students of which 6,000 are international students from 93 countries come to study Business, Computer Studies, Engineering, Environmental Studies, Arts and Science, and other programs.


The UQA (University Quality Alliance) program was started to assist students to access five of Canada's top universities. The universities in the UQA program include UBC, SFU, University of Alberta, University of Saskatchewan, and York University. Each of these universities has an excellent reputation, offers a wide range of undergraduate degrees, and presents a full range of student services characteristic of a large university campus.


You can upgrade your English language skills in LEAP (Langara English for Academic Purposes), which is offered every two months or in year round short term ESL programs, some of which include cultural activities.


The College also gives you the opportunity to earn a certificate or diploma in one of 28 career programs. The Continuing Studies Division provides over 500 evening and weekend non-credit courses for domestic students.


Langara College is noted for its innovative approach to learning with field studies. Recently, the College has offered short term credit study/travel programs in Italy, the Caribbean, and Japan. The College was the first institution in British Columbia to develop co-operative education programs and currently offers six different co-op 'learn while you earn' programs.

Incoming Students

Each semester, international students attend a mandatory orientation session where they receive information on the College, its academic and career programs, services and facilities, medical insurance, study permit, and visa renewals.
All registered students at Langara College are eligible to use the Writing Centre free of charge to attend workshops and tutorials on specific problems and assignments.

Sports

With a gymnasium and tennis courts, the Langara athletics department offers a variety of recreational (intramural) and competitive (intercollegiate) sports activities. The Langara Falcons have won several major championships. The men's basketball team won the national college basketball title in 1998 and 1999, and the men's soccer team won the national title in 1999 and 2000. Langara's Women's Soccer team won their second straight BCCAA League Championship, BCCAA Provincial Championship, and CCAA National Championship for 2007.

Activities

The Langara PLUS program offers regular badminton and soccer activities monthly in addition to other recreational activities, study skills workshops, and social events. All workshops and events attended are recorded in the Langara PLUS Passport. Upon completion of the Langara PLUS Program, an international student is awarded a 'Statement of Achievement'. This document may enhance a student's application for academic or employment pursuits.

Clubs

An elected students' union provides a variety of social, club, and special interest events. More information is available through the Langara Students' Union (LSU).

Information Technology

Instructional Media Services assists you with audio video production for course related presentations and assignments. The Langara College library provides assistance and instruction in finding information and materials. You can find books, magazines, newspapers, videos, CDs, and electronic resources, as well as study space and computer labs in the library.

Cultural

During fall and spring semesters, Langara's Studio 58 produces four plays presented by theatre arts students and directed by professionals of the Vancouver theatre community. During April and May, Langara's creative and arts students organize a series of shows to celebrate their artistic achievements. Students in Langara's Publishing Department publish the Pacific Rim Magazine each May to highlight the professional skills the students have learned during their course. Distributed in the Globe and Mail national newspaper, it is a talented production on par with other established magazines in Canada.

Special Services

A fully integrated daycare serves 62 children age’s 18 months to five years. Services for students with documented disabilities include exam accommodations, course materials in alternative format, tutoring, referral and liaison with community agencies, adaptive equipment, and education planning. First Nations Education Services provides counselling, college orientation, advocacy, course planning, and liaison with Band/Tribal administrators. Confidential Health Services are provided to Langara students with an emphasis on prevention and the promotion of health and wellness. The Mathematics and Statistics Activity and Writing Centres provide tutoring, testing, reference books, workshops, and handouts.

International Involvement

Langara College's International Education Department facilitates study by international students at the College. The College provides exchange programs for both College employees and students, external studies programs where students complete Langara courses abroad, summer English language programs, and internationalization of the curriculum of Langara's courses, as well as a Homestay program for visiting students.

Other

The College is readily accessible by public transit and several bicycle routes, and also offers reasonably priced parking in a large outside lot. Secure bike racks are available, with showers and lockers nearby, and alternate transportation, such as carpooling, is encouraged. The campus is spread among several buildings that contain a gymnasium, cafeteria, bookstore, student union building, labs, lecture halls, classrooms, computer and science laboratories, and student services. A new 7,700 square metre library and classroom complex, which has won awards for its design and has changed the face of the stunning campus.
