On Campus Housing

We know that living in residence will probably be your first time away from home. That’s why the residence is focused on building a community to help students succeed with their newfound independence. Join our more than 1,200 students that live in residence and live in the heart of university life. Each residence has meal plans with special meals such as vegetarian and vegan available.

Incoming Students

The Centre for New Students is designed around your needs. We can help you with pre-admission counselling, course selection and registration for new students, link you with appropriate academic departments and support services, and most importantly, find answers to your specific questions to help ensure your success. The Centre can also serve as a “home base” for you once you arrive on campus.

Sports

Saint Mary’s has world class recreation facilities, including a fitness centre, an all-weather track, racquetball and squash courts, sauna and steam room, a gymnasium, and a skating rink. As a full-time student, you have access to all of these facilities. Our Saint Mary’s Huskies varsity sports teams have a reputation for excellence, winning 55 Atlantic University Sports (AUS) championships and seven Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) championships.

Information Technology

Technology plays a large part of today’s ever changing world. That’s why Saint Mary’s maintains up to date technology in every aspect of the learning environment. Every student has free Internet access 24 hours a day, whether it’s in one of our 24 hour computer labs, our wireless campus, or in your own residence space.

Special Services

Saint Mary's is a pioneer in helping students with disabilities obtain post-secondary education. The Fred Smithers Centre of Support for Disabled Students specializes in providing assistance to students who require their services and offers an accessible campus. Many of our residence rooms have also been adapted to accommodate students with special needs in residence. The campus is totally accessible for students with disabilities and is almost fully interconnected by pedways and tunnels. In addition, the Fred Smithers Centre of Support for Disabled Students offers technical aids for hearing impaired students for classroom use, the Ferguson Tape Library for print handicapped students, Visual Language Interpreting program, tutor/note taking program, and a deaf educator/counsellor. A screening in program evaluates admission requirements and examination criteria for hearing impaired students as well.

Other

Students entering first year are welcomed to join the LEAP Program which promotes learning excellence and a smooth transition from high school into university. Students in this porgram choose a learning community with twenty-nine other students in their same faculty. A learning community is a bundle of essential first year classes. LEAP students take these classes together, have the help of a senior student (Peer Mentor), and attend free academic programs. This year-long program is free and will help you ease into university life, while meeting friends and gaining valuable skills.
