Strive to excel at Metalworks Studios
Metalworks Institute of Sound & Music Production Press Release

February 7, 2005 - Striving to excel has never been an issue with legendary Mississauga-based audio recording facility Metalworks Studios. It’s an art not unlike their quest for perfect sound. Established in 1978, Metalworks was originally built for legendary Canadian super-group Triumph. The studio evolved constantly over the next 25 years into a six-studio powerhouse, constantly changing, pushing the limits of recording technology. Located in Toronto’s outskirts in Mississauga, Metalworks Studios didn’t stay a secret for long. The state-of-the-art facilities quickly earned the venue world-renowned status, attracting some of the music and film industry’s highest-profile talents.

The stellar roster of recording artists who have graced their facility includes N Sync, David Bowie, Tom Cochrane, Sum 41, Tina Turner, Guns n' Roses, Our Lady Peace, Prince, Triumph, Rush, Christina Aguilera, The Cranberries, D12 with Eminem, Jay-Z, Nelly Furtado and Celine Dion to name a few. World-class engineers and producers such as Eddie Kramer, Peter Collins, George Massenburg, Mike Clink, and Rodney Jerkins have all chosen Metalworks. It is little wonder that Metalworks has been voted “Studio of the Year” for an unprecedented seven consecutive years at the Canadian Music Industry Awards.

Metalworks Institute is the educational creation and natural extension of the studio itself . Consolidating over 25 years of recording and engineering experience into a unique curriculum, the celebrated facility introduces the Metalworks Institute Of Sound and Music Production, in a newly constructed campus adjacent to the studio complex.

The intense one-year Audio Production and Engineering Program offers unique insights into the music, sound and film industries through applied learning and intensified hands-on experience with dedicated, experienced professionals offering over 1,000 hours of instruction and preparation.

“The Metalworks Institute program offers a focused curriculum based on our professional experience in the entertainment industry. We've designed teaching facilities to allow maximum hands-on training, using the latest cutting-edge technologies. We want to inspire and empower the next generation of great producers and engineers," says Metalworks owner Gil Moore.

Classes are divided into labs and lectures, covering topics that will equip students with skill sets in a broad range of audio applications. The Metalworks Institute experience is based on the real world success of Metalworks Studios, not academic theories. This provides a direct link to the future of entertainment media in today’s market that cannot be found elsewhere.

Metalworks Institute is the first Canadian post-secondary music production school to offer block scheduling: intensive class delivery that is maintained until sessions are completed as opposed to the standard weekly or bi-weekly random schedule offered by most other schools. This ensures a comprehensive learning environment that maximizes practical time, increases curriculum retention rates, and assures that students are able to schedule their free time.

Working under the vision of “Your leaders. Your mentors. One day, your peers,” Metalworks Institute’s faculty has been selected carefully, with attention focused on professional reputation, high levels of expertise, and motivational skills to mould the music industry’s next generation. The faculty embraces the Institute’s goal of maximized time with the latest in audio recording equipment for each student. This is the only way to ensure that each student has the opportunity to learn the viable skills necessary to garner diverse career opportunities.

The new Metalworks Institute campus is a state-of-the-art facility. The school’s dedication to constantly updating programs and materials enables students the opportunity to be on the leading edge of an ever-changing environment from the outset. Highlighted by a dedicated goal to provide personal workstations for each pupil, the Metalworks Institute offers more hands-on time with vital industry tools in one week than some schools may provide in a whole semester.

“With our specified curriculum and hands-on approach, the Metalworks Institute ensures students will receive the highest level of training.” states Admissions Director Ron Brandt.

Located in Mississauga, Ontario, the Metalworks Institute of Sound and Music Production is currently accepting limited enrolment.
