Early Childhood Education School: Mohawk College of Applied Arts and Technology Faculty: School of Community & Urban Studies Degree: Diploma Field of Study: Early Childhood Education and Teaching Description: The Early Childhood Education program is designed to help students to gain meaningful experiences in early childhood programs, foster the development of the whole child, and to recognize and support individual needs of young children and their families. Courses include promoting public awareness of the necessity for early childhood education, and collaboration of skills and services in the community. Experiences in childcare settings give students an opportunity to observe, practice, and evaluate the theories to which they have been exposed in classroom, seminars, workshops, and lectures. This experience is gained through field placement in a variety of area settings. Early Childhood Education has a 96% graduate employment rate. Graduates can apply for advanced standing in university degree programs with Brock University and Charles Sturt University, or discover Early Childhood Education Apprenticeship Programs. Volunteer experience in child care is advised. Accepted applicants are required to provide an up-to-date immunization record and complete a standard First Aid certification.
