| Description: |
This 24-week fixed intake program is for students with some carpentry experience who wish to acquire a comprehensive set of skills and knowledge to seek entry-level employment in the construction industry. This program enables those seeking apprenticeships to market themselves to future employers. This class provides the first year competencies of the Carpentry Apprenticeship Program. Over a 24-week period, students are given training in a realistic shop setting. Emphasis is placed on the development of solid practical knowledge and skills to continue in a career in the construction industry. This class is taught through regular lectures, demonstrations, and practical hands-on training. Indentured apprentices will participate in this program.
Carpenters have opportunities to work in residential, commercial, light industrial or the heavy construction field of new construction, renovations, and maintenance. In addition, students are provided access to the college's Learning Support Centre to assist them in the development of computer, math, writing, and communication skills.

| Prerequisites: |
Secondary School graduation or BC Adult Graduation Diploma, or GED, or Mature student status (age 19 prior to the start of classes) and completion of a college assessment to an acceptable level.
IMPORTANT: This program is open to ACE-IT students. Secondary School students interested in this program should contact their counselling office at their local Secondary School.
NOTE: Students should be physically fit (mobility and lifting), have good manual dexterity, hand-eye coordination, and balance, and be able to work at heights and in adverse weather. Students must be prepared for the following risks: dust, fumes, noise, and vibration.
Prior Learning Assessment: Contact the program instructor for information on receiving prior learning credit. Students may be assessed fees for the completion of the PLA Assessment.
