Emergency Medical Technology/Technician (EMT Paramedic)
Description:
This two-year diploma program provides skills and knowledge in all aspects of prehospital medical care. Classroom components provide a theoretical basis for the skills required to deal with medical and traumatic emergencies and emphasizes the ability to communicate effectively with patients and work in a health care team environment. Clinical placements include rotations through both chronic and acute care hospital settings while field placement in ambulance services provides opportunities to assess and treat patients in the actual work environment at a primary level of care. Physical and emotional conditioning is emphasized to apply skills under the most demanding situations likely to be encountered in the prehospital environment.
