Description: The College of the Rockies, the Interior Forest Labour Relations Association, IWA Canada and the forest industry have developed a unique trade qualification program for the forest industry. This innovative program is unique in North America providing three levels of Apprenticeship training. Planermill Technician II and I is organized into three years, consisting of one seven-week training session and two six-week training sessions.

The topics covered in the apprenticeship classes are: the forest industry, safe work practices, technical information processing, shop and measuring tools, the planer and set up of the planer, install and align the planer and planermill equipment, grinding and jointing, knives and cutter heads, remove and install knives and cutter heads, fasteners and fittings, hydraulic systems and service, pneumatic systems and service, lubrication systems and service, bearings and seals, weld, braze and solder metal, maintain and repair planermill equipment, and the maintenance and overhaul of planer.

Admission Requirements
Prerequisites:

Prerequisite: Apprentices currently sponsored in the BC Apprenticeship system. Upgraders or non-sponsored students should contact the college for seat availability and to register (250) 489-2751 loc. 8216.

Apprentices or Upgraders interested in obtaining prior learning assessment should contact the college for information and availability.

The college's Apprenticeship program trains to BC Certificate of Qualification.
