Do you enjoy reading? Do you want to enrich your critical understanding of how language works and enhance your ability to express yourself? Students in English come to understand and appreciate the society and the individual that produce a literary work, as well as the work itself. The investigation of politics, culture, art, history and philosophy is part of this understanding — as are learning to write well, think clearly, and make oral and written arguments. Students develop skills in communication, research and analysis in a department that combines scholarship with a serious commitment to undergraduate teaching.
Requiring 30 credits in each subject, the Joint Specialization encourages students to pursue the links between the study of English Literature and History as a valuable and fascinating pursuit in its own right and as preparation for a career in teaching or in other professions in which reading, research, and argumentation skills are necessary.

Grade 12 English
Quebec CEGEPS applicants must have completion of a two-year pre-university program or a three-year professional DEC (Diplôme d'études collégiales). For students from other provinces, Concordia requires a high school diploma and between four and five Grade 12 subjects.
