Contemporary Dance

School: Concordia University
Faculty: Faculty of Fine Arts
Degree: Bachelor
Field of Study: Dance, General
Description: Contemporary dance is the exploration of the total movement potential of the body. Seeking to express a personalized vision, often through experimentation and collaboration, it differs from ballet, jazz dance, modern jazz and jazz ballet in that it is not concerned with a defined style but with the development of new, more individualized approaches to the moving body and choreographic possibilities.

Emphasizing the discovery and development of the creative capacity and the technical potential of the individual student, the program seeks to develop choreographers with experience in performance. Students applying should have at least two years of experience in contemporary dance. The program is unique in its focus on choreography and the creative process supported by solid technical training. Performance is a crucial element in the program, and students are actively encouraged to collaborate, perform or to stage their own choreographies.
