Biochemistry is the study of the molecules and mechanisms essential to life. An emphasis is placed on an understanding of the structure, function, and regulation of biomolecules as they relate to the molecular basis of disease. Training involves the application of state-of-the art approaches and equipment to the many diverse areas of modern biochemistry that includes molecular genetics, structural biology, signal transduction, and bioinformatics. The advance of biotechnology has created a number of career options for graduates of biochemistry programs in fields including business, agriculture and the environment.
Other careers requiring the laboratory skills acquired are available in government, academia and industry. Many graduates also pursue further degrees in both graduate and professional schools.
The Faculty of Science offers Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees. Please see website for more information.
