Description: The ancient Greeks' dictum was "Know Thyself", and it is still good advice. Psychology courses will introduce you to theories and research findings in psychology that can help you understand yourself and others. You will learn to think critically about social issues and the claims of pop psychology, and to apply what you learn about parenting, interpersonal skills, problem solving, stress management and emotional intelligence to your relationships and your work. Courses in psychology are required for careers in many occupations including teaching, business, service industries and police work, health care and rehabilitation. According to the American Psychological Association, psychology is the most popular undergraduate major, and 67% of bachelor degree graduates in psychology find work in a related field, such as caring for children or the elderly, or working with special populations such as people with disabilities, autism or addictions.

The Psychology Department at Capilano College offers a full range of first and second year university transfer courses, and an Associate of Arts degree with a Concentration in Psychology. Students may complete the equivalent of one or two year(s) of university studies at Capilano College and transfer directly into a university's second or third year psychology program, or complete the first two years of a major in Psychology with an Associates of Arts degree, then transfer into third year Psychology at a university to obtain their Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. In addition, we offer university transfer Introductory Psychology courses required by other programs.

Admission Requirements
Prerequisites:

British Columbia Secondary School Graduation (Grade 12) or equivalent with a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 (60%) calculated on English 12, or English 12 First Peoples, and three academic Grade 12 courses. Please refer to the website for more details.
