The Electrical programs have a strong emphasis on hands-on learning and skills. Loyalist provides an environment to develop a one-on-one relationship with your instructors. The faculty is engaged, involved with the students and always ready to coach and help.
In the first year, courses focus on a working understanding of electricity and electronics and on learning the fundamental skills required in jobs in the electrical field. Students are taught basic electrical installation skills, motor control and the basics of industrial processes, including programmable logic controllers (PLCs), and fluid power and control. As well the students are taught standards of the Canadian Electric Code. The second year builds on the skills and knowledge foundation of the first year. Emphasis is on industrial automation and skills in installing, maintaining, servicing, configuring and calibrating industrial systems.

Grade 12 English
Grade 11 Mathematics
OSSD/OSSGD or equivalent with courses at the general, advanced, (C), (U), (M) or (O) level, or mature student status. Grade 12 math is preferred. MCT 4C is recommended.
