The Information Technology (IT) Major is a very demanding program that prepares students to play a key role in this critically important sector of the economy. Industry Canada views IT as central in “building a world-leading, innovative economy” that will provide a high and growing standard of living for Canadians. The program will be challenging, but it will provide graduates will excellent job prospects and a high earning potential.
During the program, students will develop proficiencies in the areas of operating systems, languages and development tools, database, messaging systems, web and e-commerce development, enterprise applications, and networking including data security. The skill profile of IT workers is constantly changing, so it is necessary that employees engage in continuous learning if they hope to remain marketable. Upon graduation, students will be well prepared to enter the workforce, and advance quickly. Many will pursue a professional designation, which indicates their commitment to life-long learning in this dynamic field. After acquiring important work experience, some may also return to school to earn a master or PhD degree in hopes of advancing further or seeking a career in teaching and research.

Grade 12 Mathematics
Applicants must have a BC Grade 12 or equivalent or mature student status, a 73% or better in the combined English 12 and government exam (within the last five years), and a C+ or better in Mathematics 12.
