Social Work and Women's Studies

School: University of Windsor
Faculty: Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences
Degree: Bachelor ; Honours
Field of Study: Social Work
Women's Studies
Description: The University of Windsor’s Social Work and Women’s Studies program is unique in North America. On graduation, you receive a Bachelor of Social Work (B.S.W.) in Social Work and Women’s Studies, which prepares you to become a Registered Social Worker in the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers. Social Work and Women’s Studies courses broaden your horizons and equip you to see beyond the conventional view of things. You learn to hear and understand the many voices of those who are vulnerable and at risk, and acquire the specialized knowledge and skills needed to effectively address the issues they face.

A deep understanding of women and gender relations is at the heart of your social work education. But this is not its boundary. This program is concerned with social justice in its broadest sense. Students examine how race, social class, religion, sexual preference, and gender shape society and culture in Canada and elsewhere. Students in the Combined program take Social Work and Women’s Studies courses in all four years. In years 1 and 2, you take more Women’s Studies than Social Work; in years 3 and 4, more Social Work than Women’s Studies. With this degree you can pursue employment as a social worker in a wide variety of government and non-profit organizations
