Psychology (B.A.)

School: University of Alberta
Faculty: Faculty of Arts
Degree: Bachelor
Field of Study: Psychology, General
Description: An undergraduate degree in Psychology does not allow you to enter the work force as a psychologist - that requires further training beyond an undergraduate degree. About 90% of the people who graduate with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology do not go on to graduate school (Master's and Doctorate level studies). So what can you do with an undergraduate degree in Psychology? Understanding how people think and react can be useful in everything from business, management and education to the public sector service, sales and marketing. In addition, you develop strong research and teamworking skills, presentation and communication skills, and skills in problem-solving, critical thinking and analysis.

The Department of Psychology offers courses leading to BA and BSc degrees. Students who want to emphasize the humanities and social sciences in their programs should register for the BA and follow one of the sequences suggested in the Faculty of Arts section. Students wishing to emphasize the biological sciences should register for the BSc. However, to ensure a well-rounded background in psychological inquiry, students in the BA program must take Psychology courses from both the Faculties of Arts and Science.
