Description: Criminology is the study of the patterns and causes of crime in society and the operation of the criminal justice system. The criminology program introduces students to the dimensions of the crime problem, the theories advanced to explain the various types of crime, and the array of agencies and programs designed to prevent, control, and respond to criminal activity. Attention is also given to issues relating to women and crime, youth and crime, the sociology of law, criminal law and procedure, comparative criminology, and community policing.
