| Description: |
The Anthropology program is organized around the study of contemporary and ancient cultures. The General Anthropology program provides a broad background for cultural issues from the perspectives of archaeology, physical anthropology and social-cultural anthropology. The Anthropology major program provides greater depth and understanding of research methods and cultural theory. A degree in Anthropology offers specialized courses in Anthropology at all levels and at the same time gives students ample opportunity to take related courses in other Departments (for example, History, Political Science, Communication Studies, and Classical Studies). Introductory courses focus on the multiple dimensions of being human and on the importance of understanding cultural diversity. Later courses deal with conceptual and methodological issues in understanding culture, and our own and other ways of life.
