| Description: |
Business plays a major role in the structure and functioning of contemporary society. Rapid changes in technology, resource allocation, structural shifts in the economy, changes in consumer preferences, global competition, and shifts in the employment market all necessitate a better understanding of the role and nature of business in today’s society.
The career opportunities for economists are diverse. Economists work in government, financial institutions, business, labour organizations, consulting firms, as well as in the not-for-profit sector. One of the most dynamic career areas for economists is in the business sector where economists are involved in planning and forecasting, production and market analysis, pricing, and government policy analysis. While a variety of employment opportunities are available to the graduate with a concentration in Economics, additional opportunities in academia and research/consulting activities are also available for those who pursue further graduate studies in Economics.
