Business Administration - Management Concentration

School: Vancouver Island University
Faculty: Business and Management
Degree: Bachelor
Field of Study: Business Administration and Management, General
Description: Business plays a major role in the structure and functioning of contemporary society. Rapid changes in technology, resource allocation, structural shifts in the economy, changes in consumer preferences, global competition, and shifts in the employment market all necessitate a better understanding of the role and nature of business in today’s society.

The study of management looks at planning, leading, organizing, and controlling work activities so that these are done efficiently (“doing things right”) and effectively (“doing the right things”). This means that managers set goals and plan on how to achieve them; they determine what tasks need to be done and who should do them; they motivate and communicate with others; and they set targets to ensure organizational goals are met.
