Chemistry is the study of atoms and molecules and of their function, uses, and applications in the world around us. That may sound dull, but think of the implications - efficient fuels, dyes that do not fade, stainless steel and non-rusting metals, antibiotics and fungicides, adhesives, long lasting tires, weather resistant coatings, breathable fabrics and no-iron garments, light but strong construction materials, bullet-proof vests, CDs and LCDs, micro circuitry and computer chips - and all at an amazing low cost. Life would be very different without chemistry.
The four-year Chemistry program at Concordia University College builds on the three-year program by providing for in-depth studies in areas of interest to you. Since many of the jobs that professional chemists do involve analysis, this topic is emphasized to give you plenty of experience in the use and value of chemical analysis. When it comes to the work-place, employers like people who need little supervision, who work well as a team, and who can communicate effectively. Concordia's four-year program offers you greater opportunities for independent work, plenty of practical training in the laboratory, and stresses skills in written and verbal communication.
