Mathematics and its Applications

School: Ryerson University
Faculty: Faculty of Engineering, Architecture and Science
Degree: Bachelor ; Co-op
Field of Study: Mathematics, General
Description: Mathematics teaches you how to think analytically, logically and creatively. It is not only a powerful problem-solving tool, but also a highly creative field of study that combines precision with intuition, and imagination with logic. The basic goal is to explore general patterns that explain our world; these can arise in electrical impulses of the human nervous system, in the evolution of animal populations, in their habitats or in fluctuations of stock-market prices. Mathematics goes far beyond science and engineering into medicine, business and even the social sciences.

Faculty members of the Department of Mathematics have expertise in applied and pure mathematics, the topics include: Computer Security, Financial Mathematics, Applied Statistics, Biomathematics, Software Testing, Graph Theory, Fluid Mechanics, Differential Equations and Operator Theory. You will have the opportunity to work on a supervised thesis project that draws on faculty research in combination with your research interests.
