| Description: |
Studies in English enhance and enrich your enjoyment of all forms of literature. In the English program, you will read a wide variety of texts, study the English language, and investigate and practice the process of writing. We offer courses in literary periods that range from classic to contemporary, and that focus on writers from Shakespeare to Margaret Atwood. Students of this four-year program may specialize in Literatures and Cultures, Creative Writing, or Young People's Texts and Cultures.
Students of English develop excellent analytic, reading, and writing skills, which are assets in almost any career. Critical readers and writers are required in many professions including business, law, medicine, politics, and public service. More directly, the study of English leads to careers in teaching or to careers that involve writing and research, including advertising, journalism, publishing, and public relations.
