Statistics (Four-Year B.A.) School: The University of Winnipeg Faculty: Faculty of Arts and Science Degree: Bachelor Field of Study: Statistics, General Description: The study of Statistics is concerned with the collection, analysis, and interpretation of data. As a student of Statistics, one may take courses in the areas of theoretical statistics and probability theory, where stress is placed on the logical development of statistical methods. One may also take courses in the more applied areas which deal with the application of statistical methods as a framework for interpreting numerical data. In addition, the Statistics Department offers courses in Operations Research and Stochastic Modelling which are applicable in telecommunications, transportation, and manufacturing systems. Computer programs are often used in the analysis of large data sets and in simulation; therefore, it is advisable for students to gain some knowledge of statistical computing and programming.
