Economics (Four-Year)

School: The University of Winnipeg
Faculty: Faculty of Arts and Science
Degree: Bachelor
Field of Study: Economics, General
Description: Economics is the social science which explores human activity directed towards the satisfaction of human wants in the context of the limited resources available in the world. It studies the issues related to the mixture of competition and co-operation among individuals, private organizations and governments in satisfying these wants.

The undergraduate study of Economics is directed towards the goal of a liberal arts education. Students study the historical, institutional, and theoretical background of modern economics from a Canadian perspective. This provides an analytical framework for making more informed judgements about current economic policies. Students may choose a general degree or a degree that includes a number of course areas or concentrations: Public Policy, Environmental Economics, Development Economics, Financial Markets, Political Economy, or Pre-Honours. A B.A. degree in Economics will lead naturally to employment in business, financial services, government, and international organizations. Graduate level studies lead to university teaching positions, independent consultancies, and research. The B.A. in Economics is highly recommended for students planning to go into law, accounting, or business schools.
