Interested in exploring a career in writing? This two-year program will give you a broad understanding of each of four writing genres - fiction, non-fiction, playwriting, poetry - while completing a range of courses in the liberal arts and sciences. By completing at least three first-year and two second-year writing courses, your Associate of Arts Degree in Creative Writing will give you the expertise and familiarity with the field to continue your education in one of two directions: journalism or creative writing.
As a graduate of the Creative Writing program, you may find employment with community newspapers, non-profit organizations, community magazines, communications companies, Tourism Victoria (or other tourism departments), and on-line publications. You can also pursue copy editing work; or write for government, for in-house public relations in small businesses, and even for yourself as a freelance writer.
Co-operative education enables students to connect their classroom studies to the real world by gaining work experience related to their program area. Students pay tuition and receive college credit for the work term, and they are required to submit assignments demonstrating their achievement of academic, professional, and personal learning objectives.
These courses are intended as guidelines. Speak to your guidance counsellor to see what courses are offered at your school.
