Earth scientists use physics, mathematics, chemistry and biology to build a quantitative and qualitative understanding of the principal areas or spheres of the Earth’s systems. You can become an economic geologist, geochemist, geochronologist, geophysicist, environmental geologist/geophysicist, petroleum geologist, palaeontologist, sedimentologist, structural geologist, or marine geologist. In order to be formally admitted to major programs in Earth Sciences, students must have successfully completed 3 first-year credit hours in each of the following departments: English, Mathematics, Earth Sciences, Chemistry and Physics; these courses must be selected from the list of required courses for degree programs in Earth Sciences.
