The department has approximately 350 majors, 30 faculty, and 40 graduate students. Each year, approximately 90 students receive an undergraduate degree in our programs. At the undergraduate level, we offer a major, a minor, and an honours program in psychology (either B.A. or B.Sc.), a major and an honours program in behavioural neuroscience (B.Sc.), and several joint honours programs with biology (B.Sc. Honours) and biochemistry (B.Sc. Honours).
Psychology is the study of behaviour and its biological basis. It seeks to understand the behaviour of living organisms through scientific research and to use the accumulated knowledge to promote the welfare of humans and other animals. Psychology at Memorial University of Newfoundland provides students with a solid background in the science of psychology, and culminate with small classes offering direct, hands-on experience in conducting research in a wide variety of areas.
