The Social Work program addresses issues of power and discrimination based on age, race, gender, sexual orientation, class, and culture. The educational objective of the program is to provide you with the knowledge, values, and skills necessary for an initial level of professional practice focusing on the interface between personal problems and public issues. The program includes courses on theory, policy research, and practice. A single, integrated Social Work program can be completed in two years on a full-time basis or in three years on a part-time basis. Prospective international students should determine certification requirements in the country of their intended practice. You can apply for admission to the program after you have a minimum of 60 credits of university level study.

Admission Requirements |
| Prerequisites: |
Admission to the BSW program is open to persons with a Baccalaureate degree, and to persons with a minimum of 60 credits of Faculty of Arts courses, which must be transferable to UBC. Applicants are required to fulfill the following prerequisites: completion of UBC’s SOWK 200 (Introduction to Social Welfare) AND UBC's SOWK 201 (Introduction to Social Work Practice), or equivalents with a minimum grade of 72% obtained in each course; at least 18 credits of course work in the social sciences and humanities; at least a GPA of 2.7 (68%) over the last 60 credits preceding admission, calculated on grades received by January 31st each year.
