Requirements for Canadian Students Many programs require that students have British Columbia secondary school graduation or equivalent in order to meet entrance requirements. Students who have graduated from the secondary school system (Grade 12) in the Yukon, Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland are considered to have satisfied this requirement. Students from Quebec who have completed one full academic year at CEGEP and students from Ontario who have graduated on the new curriculum (2003 or later) are also considered to have equivalent to British Columbia graduation. Ontario graduates from previous years are required to have six OAC courses or Grade 13. Requirements for International Students Applicants must have completed the equivalent of Canadian Grade 12 (Form Six or five O levels, plus at least two A levels) or near equivalent standing and specific program prerequisites for admission into any career, technical, or academic program. Please consult a copy of UFV's academic calendar for detailed admissions requirements for each program. Applicants for the English Second Language program must have high school or Form Five completion and be at least 18 years of age.
English Requirements For direct admission into academic programs, students must have a TOEFL score of 88 (iBT), 230 (CBT), 570 (PBT), or IELTS 6.5, or other articulated standardized test of English language proficiency.
Applicants with TOEFL score lower than 61 (iBT), 173 (CBT), 500 (PBT), or an IELTS score lower than 5.0 must first apply to the ESL program. Applicants with a TOEFL score between 61 and 87 (iBT), 173 and 229 (CBT), 500 and 569 (PBT), or an IELTS score between 5.0 and 6.0 are eligible for an entrance into the University Foundation program. Procedure for Canadian Students Apply starting October 1 for the following September, August 1 for the following January, and October 1 for the following May. You are advised to mail in your application. The postmarked date is used to determine the “date” of a mailed in application, regardless of when it is received by UFV, provided the application is complete upon submission. For details, see the Web site and choose "Introduction & General Information". Procedure for International Students Mail the following to UFV: 1. Completed international student application form. 2. A non-refundable $150.00 application fee. 3. Official transcripts from high school and college or university if attended. These must be in English and if translated must be certified. 4. A passport size photograph. 5. Test of English proficiency (e.g. TOEFL) scores (if available) or if applying for direct entry into a program other than ESL. 6. A 100 to 200 word letter explaining why you wish to study at UFV.
Students are advised to apply early as many programs have a limited number of seats. Late applications will be accepted for ESL programs as long as there is space. Applications are accepted for English Holiday Immersion and the Private Tutor program year round. Students can complete ESL and then continue in academic and career programs.
