Admissions

Requirements for Canadian Students
Academic prerequisites for full-time admission vary by program; for details, refer to www.nait.ca/admissions. Student selection is competitive, particularly in programs where application demand exceeds capacity, and may be based on academic results beyond the identified minimum requirements. An adequate knowledge of written and spoken English is required for admission to all programs.

Requirements for International Students
Admission requirements for full-time programs vary by program; for details, refer to www.nait.ca/admissions.

An adequate knowledge of written and spoken English is a prerequisite for admission to all programs. All applicants must meet the English language proficiency requirement by presenting proof of completion of the specific prerequisite English course (or approved equivalent), or a minimum of three years of full-time study in English in a country where English is the principal language. Applicants who do not meet this requirement will be asked to submit proof of English language proficiency skills. For details, visit www.nait.ca/englishreqs.

International Student Advisors are available to assist with your questions regarding prerequisites and the application process. Contact us by telephone at 1.877.333.6248 or by email at asknait@nait.ca.

Procedure for Canadian Students
In general, applications are accepted between October 1 and August 31 for programs starting in the following Fall term. Due to high demand in particular programs, early applications are encouraged. Specific application deadlines for NAIT programs are available at www.nait.ca/appdeadlines.

Complete the online application form available at www.nait.ca. A non-refundable processing fee must be paid when you submit your application. Official transcripts of your high school and post-secondary education will automatically be requested on your behalf if you attended an institution in Alberta. If you were schooled elsewhere, you must arrange for official transcripts to be sent to the Office of the Registrar directly from the institution.

In addition to the application form, some NAIT programs require you to complete a Career Investigation Report. For details, visit www.nait.ca/careerinvestigation.

Procedure for International Students
Apply to NAIT online at www.nait.ca. The admission of international applicants is competitive and many NAIT programs fill quickly, so you should apply as early as possible. For programs starting in September, apply any time after October 1 of the previous year. Deadline for international applications is May 15.

Most international students will need a study permit if they plan to study in Canada. To get a study permit, first apply online for your program choice at www.nait.ca. Once you have been accepted, you will receive an official Letter of Acceptance. Then contact your closest Canadian embassy or consulate and supply them with your documents to begin the study permit application process. The length of time needed to get a study permit can vary by country, but often takes three to four months.

Please visit our website for full details on the application process, English proficiency requirements, study permits, working in Canada and other things you’ll want to know: www.nait.ca/international.
