On-campus Housing

Notes
Apartment style suites are located steps from the main campus. Housing is guaranteed for first year, first entry students who apply by March 1. Housing services also provides a wellness floor, which emphasizes a substance and smoke free environment focused on quiet study. Housing fees include cable TV, local phone (including caller ID, voice mail, and call waiting), and high speed Internet. Students are responsible for providing their own cooking and eating utensils, food, dishes, and glassware. Students must also provide their own bedding.

Incoming Students
UNBC offers extensive student services and programs to ease the transition for incoming students including orientation programs (social and academic), quality of life events, personal, educational, career, and special needs counselling, and learning skills centre (learning strategies, writing skills, and tutoring).

Career Planning
Life as a university student can be very challenging at times. The UNBC Counselling and Career Centre provides confidential personal and career counselling to UNBC students. Service is provided individually and in groups, and where necessary, we link students to community resources. We operate the Career Centre to assist students in career research and planning. In addition to counselling, we provide consultation, workshops, training, and coordinate related community events.

UNBC is home to the Timber-wolves men’s and ladies varsity basketball teams that play in the BCCAA. Junior varsity teams include co-ed Nordic skiing, men's ice hockey, and men's and ladies indoor soccer. Check out www.unbc.ca/athletics.

Activities
Too many to list! Check out www.unbc.ca/whyunbc. We have all sorts of great events and activities from the yearly kick off concert "Back Yard BBQ" to the outdoor bounty that surrounds our campus. Get involved in a club, spend some time outside, and take advantage all that is UNBC!

Clubs
There are currently more than 40 clubs governed by the Northern Undergraduate Student Society (NUGSS). Over 80% of students at UNBC participate in clubs or in club activities. It is the perfect opportunity to get involved and have fun. If we don't have the club you’re looking for, start it! Check out www.nugss.com.

Information Technology
The University is now wireless allowing student connection to the Internet from anywhere on campus. All residence rooms are wired for computer connections and have access to the Internet. The cost of high speed Internet is included in the housing fees.

Cultural
The International Centre at UNBC plans and promotes cultural awareness on campus through a variety of activities at www.unbc.ca/international. The UNBC First Nations Centre offers a peaceful, culturally sensitive, environment where students can learn, study, socialize, and relax. Check out www.unbc.ca/firstnationscentre.

Campus Tours
We welcome you to bring groups of students to our campus and to encourage individual students to participate in our ‘Student for a Day’ program. This program provides Grade 11 and 12 students with the opportunity to partake in first year classes relevant to their program of interest, have lunch with current UNBC students, speak with university representatives, and have a campus tour.
