On-campus Housing

Notes
Secondary school students are guaranteed residence accommodation if they have received full-time admission to Nipissing by June 2 and have returned the residence application with the $300.00 deposit by the deadline.

Accommodation is provided in suites with four bedrooms and a shared kitchen, lounge, and bathroom(s) or in townhouse style complexes.

Off-campus Housing

Notes
There is a variety of housing available in the city of North Bay. The Student Residence Office offers off-campus housing lists, maps of the city, bus schedules, and telephones to assist in finding suitable accommodations. Nipissing University and Canadore College jointly maintain a Web site to assist students in finding off-campus housing. The approximate off-campus price range is: room $285.00 to $350.00 per month; bachelor $375.00 to $500.00 per month; and one bedroom $500.00 to $600.00 per month.

Incoming Students
International students receive course descriptions and registration information after they have accepted their admission offer. Students are encouraged to contact an Academic Advisor by email or phone for assistance in selecting courses.

The University hosts special academic, residence and campus orientation programs at the start of the fall term.

Career Planning
Nipissing University provides academic, career and personal counselling through the Faculty of Arts and Science office and the Student Affairs department.

Sports

Intramural:

Notes
A variety of sporting activities are available including hockey, basketball, volleyball, indoor and outdoor soccer and floor hockey. Varsity teams, called the Laker's, participate in curling, cross-country running, soccer, Nordic skiing and volleyball. Nipissing's campus includes almost 20km of natural trails for anyone who enjoys hiking, running, mountain biking and/or cross-country skiing.
Nipissing students have access to downhill skiing, a variety of water sports activities and paved trails for in-line skating and biking within the City of North Bay.

Clubs
Student clubs and organizations match cultural, social, recreational, academic and other personal interests. A Club Fair, held each Septembe and January provides an excellent opportunity for students to sign up for whatever club interests them.

Information Technology
Every Nipissing student automatically has an account providing access to the Internet and e-mail. Residence rooms are wired for high speed and direct access to the university computer network. Library resources are available on-line. In addition, computer lab facilities are available for student use.

Cultural
A variety of cultural events (concerts, theatrical performances, readings, art exhibits and special lectures) are held on campus and throughout the city of North Bay each year. North Bay has a very active arts community providing Nipissing students with access to a wide range of programming.

Special Services
Nipissing provides an accessible, barrier-free learning environment for students with disabilities (physical and mobility challenges, visual and hearing impairment, learning disabilities and certain health conditions). On-campus, accessible residence accommodation is available to physically and mobility challenged students. Resources and other assistance is provided by the Special Needs Office. Students are encouraged to contact this Office to identify personal disability-related educational needs.

International Involvement
Through a program aimed at promoting scholarly activities and multi-cultural understanding, Nipissing University has exchange agreements with universities in Mexico, Germany, Kathmandu, England, Finland, the United States, Chile and Barbados. Nipissing University also provides faculty and other resources to Montserrat and Anguilla for their teacher education programs.

Campus tours are available by contacting the Liaison Office. We hope soon to have an on-line tour opportunity available on our updated website (expected in early 2002).
