Vancouver Island University provides a range of educational opportunities from one year certificates and two year diplomas to four year university degree completion programs and post-graduate opportunities in business, language and fisheries.
English Language Certificate Students from around the world come to Vancouver Island University for our English language certificate programs that prepare students for effective communication and to enter academic programs. When students complete our language program, they are granted 3 academic credits toward their diploma or degree.
Academic Programs Vancouver Island University has four year bachelor degrees, two year diplomas, and one year certificate programs in a range of areas.
Business (M.B.A./M.Sc.I.B., post-graduate diploma, Bachelor of Business Administration) Our 14 to 16 month Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) program is very popular with business or non-business graduates looking for a very intensive exciting program to help improve their career prospects and to work in Canada after graduation. Non-business graduates are also entering our post-degree diploma in Business providing them with focused business skills. These programs compliment our Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.) and Business diploma programs that have eight streams for students - Accounting, Economics, Financial Services, Human Resources Management, International Business, Marketing, and Management.
Tourism and Hospitality Students can work and study in our Tourism and Hospitality Management programs that offer cooperative education, which means students work full-time for four months each year that they study. A great way to get Canadian work experience and earn some money!
Master of Arts in Sustainable Leisure Management Science and Technology Vancouver Island University’s Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) programs are respected for their small class size and excellence in teaching, computer science, information technology, digital media technology, biology, fisheries and aquaculture, natural resource protection, engineering, and chemistry, among many other areas.
Art and Design, and Performing Arts Our graphic design and interior design students are regularly winning provincial awards for the quality of the work they produce. In our Theatre Department, students can learn both sides of the theatre process, either acting or production and our jazz and classical music programs are well recognized for excellence.
Humanities Our Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degrees offer 17 majors and minors including Anthropology, Criminology, Digital Media, Economics, Graphic Design, History, Global Studies, Liberal Studies, Physical Education and Psychology. Many of these programs along with our B.Sc. degrees are excellent preparation for graduate programs and professional degrees such as Law, Medicine, Architecture, and Dentistry, among others.
Career/Vocational Our award winning Culinary Arts certificate program is an intensive 12 month program that will get students working in some of the best restaurants and hotels in the world. Graduates from this program are working throughout Europe, Asia, US, and Canada.
