Since 1838, Acadia University has challenged students to excel both in and out of the classroom. Located in the historic town of Wolfville, Nova Scotia, 100 kilometres from the provincial capital, Halifax, Nova Scotia, the University sits on 200 acres of breathtakingly beautiful land in the heart of the Annapolis Valley.
Acadia's commitment to innovation is evident across the disciplines and through the Acadia Advantage, an academic initiative that makes the University the first in Canada to integrate the use of notebook computers into the undergraduate curriculum. In March 1999, the Irving family made a substantial gift to the University, an Environmental Sciences Research Centre, Botanical Gardens, and Campus Meeting Place. The complex consists of botanical gardens and a glasshouse that features representative plants, habitats, and rocks of northeastern North America. The facility also includes modern classrooms and a variety of spaces where students, faculty, alumni, and the surrounding community can meet formally and informally.
Why choose Acadia? Maclean's annual reputation survey declares Acadia the "Best Overall" and "Most Innovative" primarily undergraduate university in Canada. Acadia is also rated as the "Highest Quality" and "Most Innovative" primarily undergraduate university. Acadia offers a wide range of quality academic programs enhanced with the latest technology. Each incoming student is issued a notebook computer. The average class size is 26 students with a faculty to student ratio of 1:17. Students are in small interactive classes, in state of the art learning environments. There are over 1,200 part-time jobs on campus and a wide range of co-operative education and internship opportunities. Students come from across Canada and over 70 countries worldwide. Academic excellence and leadership are recognized with over $2.5 million in scholarships and awards each year. The University has a close relationship with the small, safe, and friendly town of Wolfville. |
